April is Autism Awareness month! At Los Arboles teachers have been using many resources to bring awareness of autism spectrum disorder. Read aloud books and videos from the Internet have helped kick start discussions to help all students gain a better understanding of what autism is and looks like. This month, teachers are wearing autism awareness shirts every Wednesday and a few teachers and families have participated in events occurring around the Bay Area such as a Dance A Thon for Autism and the Autism Speaks walk. Students in all classes have participated in an art project that will soon be featured in our school office. As an inclusion school, it is important to make all students more aware of the various needs of the students present on our campus. These are just the beginning steps to promote a more inclusive classroom and school environment.
