We're Going to College!

On October 19th Los Arboles celebrated College Day. During college day, students were able to hear about the various paths a person may take to get to college. Teachers shared information about their college experiences and encouraged students to participate in activities surrounding the theme of college. Some students created a college mascot while others decorated paper caps. A local organization named CommUniverCity, that strives to improve San Jose neighborhoods, teamed up with a few teachers to promote their College Day initiative. Through their program college students were able to visit classrooms and give a presentation about what college is like and what they were studying. Additionally, students were given the opportunity to ask questions about college.

This year, our principal, Tina Ybarra, has decided to focus on promoting college awareness on campus by making every Friday college t-shirt day. Students who own a college shirt or sweatshirt are encouraged to wear it on Friday. Furthermore, all students will have the opportunity to visit a college campus and explore what colleges have to offer. Kindergarten and first grade have already visited their colleges, while second and third are scheduled to visit colleges later this year. Kindergarten took a tour of San Jose State University and first grade visited De Anza Community College. Second grade will visit Stanford University, while third grade visits Santa Clara University.
