Monday, January 21st was a holiday in remembrance of Martin Luther King, Jr. At Los Arboles, many teachers used this as an opportunity to teach students about Martin Luther King and his life’s work. Many Los Arboles students read books, watched movies and videos about him, and did hands on activities to support their learning.
Students in Ms. Quintana’s class watched a video about MLK, did word activities, and a project to remember him. In Mrs. Hodgson and Ms. Aguirre’s first grade class, students wrote an “I have a dream” speech. Students in Ms. Flores and Mrs. Smith’s class made dream mobiles in which students wrote a dream for their community, their country, and their world. Ms. O’Grady, Ms. Valdez, Ms. O’Herin, and Mrs. Hubrig wrote an “I have a Dream Speech”. Ms. Zelenka’s third grade class did an activity expressing the message that even though we all might look differently, we can all work together – using our special abilities to create a strong community.
Ask your child how they honored Martin Luther King, Jr in their classroom.
